We woke up this morning and drove to the CBX terminal. It was a short drive, and we got there very early, around 830 am for our 2pm flight. We wanted to make sure we did not feel rushed, since we had to go through customs and immigration.

It was a short 30 minute drive to the CBX terminal. When we got there, we got our bags out of the truck and said our goodbyes. This was really difficult, sad, and scary. I hugged my parents tight and cried. I was really sad to go off on our own, but I am glad we got to go to the terminal together. With that, Sophie and I headed into CBX.

Overall , things went fairly smoothly, except I had to check my backpack because it was over weight (It had a lot of our electronics in it). So I moved my meds to Sophie's bag, and I hoped that the electronics would be ok. They added a fragile sticker to it, so hopefully that means they will be careful with it. Sophie thinks it will be fine.

Now we are just waiting for our plane.

We had a drink at a bar and it was good. I had a dark Bohemia beer, which was very good! Sophie spilled my beer, but they gave us another one, which was very nice of them.

Now we are having brunch. I had a scrambled eggs dish. I thought it was one with spinach, mushrooms, and roasted cactus, but I think the waitress thought I was pointing to something else, so I got a thing with machacha and these neat grilled cheese sticks and avocado. It was very good, though I am curious how the cactus would have tasted.

We are on the plane now taking off.

The flight was full, so they were asking people to check their carry on bags. We were just barely able to keep our carry on from being checked, which saved our medications from the cold temperature, but when it looked like we were going to have to check it, I had taken them out and put them in my jacket pocket.

We are in the emergency exit row, and apparently on Aeromexico flights, that means you can't have your personal item with you, it has to go in the overhead bin. I was kind of annoyed at this, but what can you do.

I took my phone and kindle out, but had to put my purse up there.

Then they said we can't have our water bottles either, so now those are up there too.

Sophie got really frustrated with this, and so did I, but it is what it is.

To top it all off, the touch pad for my in-flight movie screen does not even work, but luckily I had my phone, so I just listened to music.

This has been a challenging day. I just hope we get there with all our stuff.

I'm sure we will, but it is still stressful

Update after landing in Costa Rica:

We made it! And our stuff was all there! We had to go through immigration in CR first before we got our luggage. Luckily we got there relatively early, thought there were still a good group of people in front of us, because they went down to one lane for visitors coming in, and then there were a huge bunch of people behind us, so seems we beat most of the rush. When we got there, we showed our passports to the immigration police, and answered some questions, and got our stamp. All in all, not too bad.

When we finally got to baggage claim, our bags were actually already all there, and one of the airport people was beside it, making sure the right people got the right luggage, so that was great! Then we went through customs, which was no issue.

After that, we went to the exit and found a taxi driver to take us to our hotel, and he even knew where it was without needing gps. We finally got there, around 1 am or so, and we checked in to our room and got ready for bed. It had been a very long, stressful day, but we were finally here!

Wow! I'm glad to hear the story, as I was wondering how everything went! The baggage hassle sounds very frustrating, but glad you got through everything ok. Putting the perishables in your pocket was pretty resourceful, though I'm glad you didn't have to check that last bag after all.

What an adventure!
